I need to be able to manually add affiliates after registration, and when this happens sometimes I need to know when it happens.

The fix is pretty easy: adding a datetime / int(11) to ms_affiliates_genealogy and updating the set_affiliate function. Because it's a fairly big change I've done it through a custom module, but it would be nice to have in your module :)
