I've just installed the new File Download suite - it looks great! Couple of feature requests for the next version:
• Free check out. If the user buy an item at zero cost could we skip the payment gateway phase?
• Multiple files. Could we have the ability to add multiple files to one download plan?
• Price by role.. Variable price depending on the users role: that way I can easily give discount to members without having to use coupon codes.

Free checkout is something that should be doable, I will have to make some changes in MS Core to accommodate free orders. I'll add this to the feature requests list.
Multiple files is a bigger change, since currently many things are hinging upon the 1-to-1 relationship between File Downloads, Profiles, and Files. I don't think this will make it in to the 2.x branch, especially now that you can add multiple files to your cart anyways.
Price by role is an excellent idea, and I am working on an add-on module for MS Core (similar to MS Tax/Coupons) that will allow you to set a discount for roles.
