Compatible with Ad module?

Hi, all--

Is there any reason why this mod (which sounds excellent, by the way) would not be compatible with Drupal's already-existing ad module? While not a deal-killer, it would seem a shame to have to replicate the ad module type in CCK, especially with its built-in tracking, reports, etc.

From what I gather this SHOULD work with any node type, so I don't see why it wouldn't work with the ad mod. But thought I'd ask, first, before I take the plunge.

Thanks!

Willow, I was curious about

Willow,
I was curious about this, so I installed the Advertisement module, which is very impressive, and gave it a shot.

It is mostly working, but there are a few things that need to be reconciled.

First, the Advertisement module has it's own status value for each Ad. It can be 'Active', 'Pending', 'Approved', 'Expired', etc. This status is used to determine whether the Ad will show in the blocks. This status is separate from the Node Status. So an ad node can be published but still be expired or inactive.

The Ad module is smart enough to know that when an Ad is unpublished, it should be set to expired. So Pay to Publish is able to successfully unpublish the Ads. But when users try to republish them, and the node is set to Published, the Ads module still lists the Ad as expired.

There are other gotchas here and there. This is something that I'm interested in, because I think this module could be a great asset. I will look into ways to provide specific support for the Advertisement module in Pay to Publish. Keep your eyes out for it in the future.

Sincerely,
Leighton Whiting

Ad module

I too am interested in using the ad module with Pay to Publish. Have you spent any more time on those "gotchas" you mentioned above?

I am also looking for a way

I am also looking for a way to sell ad blocks with pay to publish... At this time though, Advertisement isn't even development for Drupal 7. I'd love a content type that posts to block some way. :'(

You can actually do that

You can actually do that already by just using Views and Content Types. Just create a new content type, call it 'Ad' or whatever you want, then create a new View. Make a display for the view to use Blocks, and set it to display X random Ads in the block. Then simply put the block on whatever pages you want it on.

You can use Pay to Publish to charge people to publish their ads.

another vote for Ad module integration

I'd love to see this integration.  I have a handfull of sites that use the Ad moudule and want to keep all the features it offers.  But they also want to be able to sell ads without having to put in quite as much effort.

We already use Pay to Publish for calendar items on one site and it would be a perfect fit for ads too!
