Hi,

We were thinking of using Membership Suite for the memberships we need to sell on our site... but I'm just realising that we also need to be able to sell

  • ads
  • tickets to an annual conference
  • possible normal products, such as t-shirts, etc.

Will moneyscripts be a good general-purpose solution for this, or am I going to end up using Ubercart for part of the solution?

Thanks!

Dan, You can sell Ads using

Dan,

You can sell Ads using the Pay to Publish module.

You would need to develop a module to sell tickets for an event. MS Core API would be great for something like this, but the module just doesn't exist yet.

Selling actual physical products would be best done via Ubercart, in my opinion.

MoneyScripts modules can run alongside Ubercart without any problems.

Canadian payment gateway?

Thanks!

Another quick question. Do you have a Canadian payment-processing gateway that you can recommend? Our client is currently using Beanstream, which they like because it is inexpensive, but MS doesn't support it. Is there one that you know of or like?

Hmmm, I would say PayPal is the first one that comes to mind that most Canadians I know are using. Beanstream has a (old) module for Ubercart that you might be able to port over to the MS API if you wanted.

Selling Things...

Drupal Commerce (DC) seems to be getting a lot of traction - I presume it's a relatively simple process to add memberships to the DC cart....

Would you define a membership as a product in DC as well, or is there
some sort of sync happening?

Cheers,
Keith.

Keith, Not sure what you mean

Keith,

Not sure what you mean by 'some sort of sync happening'. Memberships would need a lot of other things, such as recurring payments, cancellation, expiration, multiple states, modifications (upgrades/downgrades), integration with registration and other things, just to name a few. So it would be a bit more complex than just making a membership product.

The question above though wasn't whether selling Memberships in Ubercart or Drupal Commerce was possible, but rather if selling other products in MS Core is possible. In short, the answer is yes, but it would take a custom module implementing a new product type. I've been meaning to write a module to facilitate ticket sales to events, but haven't found the time yet.

Selling physical products is something that I would recommend Ubercart or Drupal Commerce for, because they have better facilities for things like that (shipping modules, etc).
