Automatic recurring billing (ARB) and Credit Card Expiration

Can you explain what happens if a user has purchased a membership on a month to month basis with a credit card set up for ARB and their credit card expires? Will the user get an email indicating that their card is about to expire, and have a chance to provide a new expiration date or a different credit card? If their card does expire, will their membership automatically be cancelled?

On a similar note, what happens if a user on ARB has their credit card lost or stolen and they have their bank disable that card?

Thanks,
David

Authorize.net ARB doesn't

Authorize.net ARB doesn't have support for updating the credit card info. The payments will simply fail and then Membership Suite will mark the subscription as cancelled, and it will be scheduled to expire when it should.

If users then wish to sign up again, they can do so with a different card.

If you use CIM, this will be handled in a better way in the coming updates (users will be able to update their credit card info (change the expiration date, for example), and will be notified by email if there is a problem that needs their attention.

I really recommend CIM over ARB because of the flexibility it gives you.

I convinced my company to

I convinced my company to enable CIM on their Authorize.net account.

Will the coming updates allow users to manage their credit card info through an interface that Membership Suite provides? Also, can customers be notified in advance when their credit card is about to expire? And will the email they get configurable through a template in the Membership Suite admin?

Being a developer myself I realize you're probably reluctant to commit to dates for this new functionality :-) Is it possible it might be available by then end of 2010?

Best Regards,
David

David, Definitely, this will

David,
Definitely, this will be added in the next few releases, since I see these as very important feature sets, and I am going to start pushing Authorize.net CIM as my recommended Payment Gateway.
